This past weekend on September 11th, the Emporia High School cross country team hosted their first and last home meet of the season at Jones Park. Including EHS, there were 17 teams total competing on Saturday morning. The girls varsity team placed 7th overall, and the boys varsity team placed 8th. In the varsity races, there were two runners from Emporia that placed, Micah Sheffy-Harris (11) in 13th place and Daghyn True (10) in 18th place.

“I just hope to see us improve, you know we’re a young team,” said Daghyn True, who is the top boys runner at EHS this year. He also said he’s glad to see his team get out there and compete and he hopes they can improve to eventually make it to state.

In the junior varsity races, Sofia Ruvalcaba (11) placed 1st, while Leanna Lewis (10) placed 6th. Lewis sates that her favorite part of going out and racing is “getting to put myself to the test and see what I can actually do when I give it my all.”
