Emporia High School is hosting the Winter Sports dance on Friday, January 13. The dance will be held immediately after the Boys Varsity Basketball Game where the king and queen will be announced.

Winter Sports Queen Candidates are seniors, Laura Baldwin, Mia Crouch, Jazmin Murillo, Leia Starr and Kaitlyn Velazquez. Winter Sports King Candidates are seniors, Bryan Antonio-Cruz, Adrian Chavez, Drew Hess, David Khamphouy, and Xerarch Tungjaroenkul.

This year’s candidates were nominated by EHS clubs and winter athletic teams. That list was narrowed down by the senior class to the top 5 candidates. This week, the student body voted to select this year’s Winter Sports King and Queen.

Emporia High School has not hosted a Winter Sports dance in 4 years due to cancellation for snow in 2020 and COVID concerns in 2021 and 2022. It will be the first time students will get to participate.

This week the EHS student body also dressed up for a spirit week, showing their excitement for the dance.

The theme for this year’s dance is Winter Wonderland. The dance is casual, and the senior board encourages students to wear the Winter Wonderland t-shirts that were sold for the week.

Students will leave the building after the boys varsity game and re-enter through the front commons. There is an entry fee of $5 that students will have to pay before entering the dance.

The dance will last 2 hours from whenever it starts, depending on when the games and candidates are announced. Students will not be able to re-enter the dance if they leave.

“I am excited to see everyone at the dance since it has been quite a while since EHS last had a Winter Sports dance,” Carlee Wright, senior class vice president, said.
