Reid Rech

Reid Rech is a senior and this is her first year on newspaper staff. Reid likes to dance in her spare time, although she is not on the high school dance team. Reid’s favorite food is Mexican food but she works at McDonald’s. Reid’s hidden talent is that she can ride a unicycle. Reid is excited to get the school year over with and go on with her life.

Alisha Henery

While not on the dirt track, Alisha Henery is a first year staff member on the newspaper staff. Alisha currently works as a secretary at First Start Rental, but she hopes to one day become a teacher. At school, Alisha’s favorite subject is math, and she is an active member of Spartan Club. She also plays volleyball for the school and for a traveling team. Alisha is a Nebraska Cornhuskers fan, and she is related to a former kicker on the team. While on staff, Alisha plans on covering a wide variety of sporting events.

Megan Rahe

Even though it is only her first year as a staff writer and photographer, Megan Rahe, sr., is keeping plenty busy. She is also a member of theater as well as captain of the girls’ swim team and will begin her final season in the spring.

“I’m looking forward to participating in swim again and getting to meet new people,” Rahe said of her hopes for senior year.

Some of Megan’s favorite things include Scooby Doo and the color lavender.

After completing her last year here at EHS Rahe plans on attending either Butler Community College or Fort Hays State, however, her major remains undecided.

Josh McAnarney

For Josh McAnarney being a sophomore can be stressful, between school, work and being involved in activities it takes up a lot of time.

This is McAnarney’s first year being on the Echo staff. Besides writing for the Echo, McAnarney participates in boys basketball and boys golf. Along with participating in sports he takes time to be involved with the recycling club.

When McAnarney has time to have fun he likes to hang out with friends, swim and play video games.

McAnarney’s favorite high school memory is participating in the sports he’s involved in. His plans after high school consist of going to college, but he is undecided on a major.

Rafael Garcia

Getting ready for his first year on staff, Rafael Garcia, soph., is prepared to write for the Emporia High School newspaper, the Echo.

Garcia is involved in soccer, French club and he is the secretary of sophomore board. Along with being involved with activities during school, his hobbies include playing soccer, music and volunteering at his church.

When Garcia is away from school, he enjoys chasing his Chihuahua and spending time participating in his hobbies. More of his favorite things include the color green and pizza.

While his memory of high school so far is a blur, Garcia is ready to make many memories.

“I am looking forward to being on the newspaper staff this year,” Garcia said.

J.L. Savage

JL Savage, a senior at EHS, is serving his first year on the Echo staff. Besides being academically influenced he is also driven by sports such as basketball, football and track. Savage’s favorite food is seafood and one of the main reasons he joined the Echo staff this year was to have one common class with his friend Jackson Perez. His favorite class this year is weights and a hidden talent of Savage is that he is able to perform accurate back flips. Savage thoroughly enjoys playing Madden NFL in his free time.

Emily Giffin

Emily Giffin has been a member of the newspaper staff for three years and is currently the editor in chief. Emily is a senior this year and is the StuCo President and is vice president for her senior class. She is also an active member of Spartan Club. This year she will be playing volleyball, softball and also bowling.  Her hobbies include reading and writing, and her favorite class is English. Emily’s favorite part of the day is when school is over.

Cassie Stair

Cassie Stair is a senior in high school with plans to go to Kansas State University next year to major in biology and journalism.  She is involved in multiple activities at Emporia High; she is the Vice President of Thespians, StuCo executive secretary, senior board treasurer, National Honor Society treasurer, French Honor Society, a member of Spartan Theatre, and newspaper.  Stair has been on the newspaper staff for three years.  While Cassie is not at school she is always keeping busy by volunteering at the zoo and doing community service at the local elementary schools.  When she isn’t volunteering she is hanging out with her friends or eating her favorite foods, which are Chinese or Italian.

Jackson Perez, a senior at Emporia High School, has been on staff for three years. He loves eating tostadas.  Perez is very active in school. He is on the basketball team and the baseball team.  In his free time Perez likes doing yoga.  He is undecided on where he wants to go to college.  Perez is excited to enhance his skills in the English language and play sports his senior year.

Margarita Nuñez

Margarita Nuñez is a senior at Emporia High School and this is her second year on newspaper staff.  She was born in Campeche, Mexico before she and her family migrated to California.  It was not until her junior year that Nuñez came to Emporia High.  She is also involved in various activities at EHS such as swim, theatre and creative writing.  Some of her hobbies include reading and writing.  Nuñez elected to be on the newspaper staff so she could get more experience in writing, and she could bring news to the students of EHS.  After her time at Emporia High, she plans to go to college and major in either English or criminal studies.
